🚀Week 6: Communication

It’s Homecoming Week in Rocket Country!🎉🏈♥️💙What better time to kick off a reminder about our Portrait of a Rocket?

Whether our students go directly into the workforce or military, enter college, or become entrepreneurs, being able to communicate, have integrity, show responsibility, utilize critical thinking, demonstrate leadership, and display empathy are essential skills for success.

That is why these competencies were chosen by students, families, staff, and community members for our Portrait of a Rocket. Over the next several weeks, we will take a deeper dive into each competency and share ideas for how you can help develop these skills at home as we continue to Empower Students to Reach Their Full Potential.

Our first skill is Communication. Communication means being able to articulate your thoughts and ideas respectfully and effectively listen to and collaborate with others.

🏠 How can families practice this at home? Give your student opportunities to share their thoughts and opinions during everyday conversations. Ask questions such as, “What do you think?” or “Why do you feel that way?” Then practice active listening by allowing them to finish their thought before responding. You can also encourage your student to respectfully consider a different point of view by asking, “What do you think the other person might be thinking?” These simple conversations help students practice expressing themselves clearly, listening to others, and respectfully communicating even when they may not agree.

Communication is more than talking. It is listening, understanding, collaborating, and making sure our ideas are heard and respected. And during Homecoming Week, let’s remember that how we communicate with one another is part of what makes the Rocket community special! ♥️💙

🚀 A Great Week to Be a Rocket!

Homecoming is a great reminder that being a Rocket means being part of something bigger than ourselves. It is about showing up, supporting one another, celebrating our school, and building connections that strengthen our community.

As we celebrate Homecoming this week, I hope our students remember that every conversation, every interaction, and every opportunity to listen and understand someone else is a chance to practice Communication.

Let’s communicate celebrations about our school, support one another, and make it a Homecoming Week to remember! Go, Rockets!
